$25.3 Million will be invested in Canadian Gender Equity in Sport.

Canada has committed to investing $25.3 million over the next three years in Canada’s Gender Equity in Sport Strategy, beginning this year.
This strategy was developed by Women and Gender Equality Canada in partnership with Canada’s sport community, including Indigenous peoples, provincial and territorial governments, international partners, and other stakeholders.
It recognizes that our society has not yet achieved gender equality in sport and provides a framework for Canada to create better opportunities for everyone. The goal of Canada’s strategy is to ensure that, by 2022, Canada achieves a balance of representation and participation across all levels of sport – from the recreational level to competitive elite sport – with an emphasis on increasing opportunities for girls and women.
Canada’s strategy will be built on a strong foundation of collaboration, research, and community-led initiatives that promote gender equitable sport policy and programming. This includes efforts to ensure greater access to safe spaces for girls and women in sport, reduce barriers to participation, develop gender-sensitive policies and infrastructure, increase resources available for coaches and athletes, and integrate gender equity into Canada’s sport systems.
Canada is committed to working together with Indigenous peoples, provinces and territories, international partners, and the sport community to ensure that all Canadians have equal access to safe and inclusive sport opportunities. Canada is also committed to ensuring that girls and women are represented at all levels of decision-making in sport.
Through Canada’s Gender Equity in Sport Strategy, Canada is declaring that it is time to level the playing field and create equal opportunities for everyone. Canada’s strategy will ensure that all Canadians have an equal chance to succeed in sport, no matter their gender identity or expression. Canada’s goal is that, by 2022, Canada will be a leader in gender equity in sport.
