“I definitely want to be in F1,” said Pulling. “That is the dream and has been since I started racing. The W Series has given me a great platform to show what I can do and I want to take that next step.”

Abbi Pulling, who is managed by former F1 driver David Coulthard, will spend the 2023 season racing in the W Series and selected Formula 3 races.

She added: “I’ll be racing in the W Series and hopefully some Formula 3 races this year. My aim is to win the W Series title and then look at moving up to Formula 2.”

Another racer Jamie Chadwick, who is also managed by Coulthard, agreed that a move to F1 was the eventual goal. “It’s something I’ve been working towards for a long time and it would be amazing to achieve,” she said.

“It’s a tough ask but I’m not going to give up on it. I’m going to keep working hard and see where it takes me.”

Steafno Domenicali, who became CEO of Formula 1 in January, has previously said that he does not believe women will be able to compete in the sport at the highest level. “I am not so sure that women can challenge men in F1,” he said in February.

“We need to find the right solution, which is why we are working on a female academy, which will start next year.”

The W Series CEO believes that both Pulling and Chadwick have the potential to reach Formula 1. “I think Abbi and Jamie have the potential to be very successful in motorsport,” he said.

“They are both extremely talented drivers and I think they have what it takes to reach the highest level.”
