Arsenal’s Beth Mead was overcome with emotion and pride upon receiving the award, stating that it meant “the world” to her. She paid tribute to Arsenal for their support in helping foster her talent as a player throughout her career.

When asked about her plans for the future, she replied that she was determined to keep striving for success, both on and off the pitch. She cited Arsenal’s 2022 FA Cup win as a major turning point in her career, and hopes to see even more Arsenal success going forward.

Mead spoke of her shock at receiving the award, saying: “I’m so, so surprised. It’s not something that I ever expected to receive but it makes me feel so proud and privileged to be Arsenal’s first ever Sports Personality of the Year. I can’t thank Arsenal enough for giving me the opportunity to play football and represent them on a global stage."

She continued: “This will give me the confidence to push even further in 2022 and beyond, and I’m determined to make Arsenal proud.” Mead’s Arsenal team-mates have been quick to share their congratulations for the forward, with Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro saying: “It is an incredible achievement for Beth and reflects her dedication, commitment and talent. This will serve as a great motivation for her and Arsenal in the years to come."
