The 29-year-old midfielder, who is a Spurs academy graduate, latched on to a pass from Rianna Dean and let fly with an unstoppable effort that flew into the top corner.

The goal was Neville’s first in the WSL and helped Tottenham to a 2-0 victory over Leicester at Kingsmeadow. Neville has been with Tottenham since 2012 and has made over 100 appearances for the club.

She was part of the team that won promotion to the WSL in 2017 and has also represented England at Under-19 level. Neville then unleashed an unstoppable strike from 40 yards out, finding the top corner.

The Women’s Super League game was being broadcast live on Sky Sports and Neville’s spectacular goal was met with amazement from commentators and viewers alike. One Twitter user described it as “the best goal I’ve seen in the WSL”.

Neville’s goal helped Leicester to a 2-1 victory over Birmingham and moved them up to fourth in the table. She has been a key player for Leicester this season, making 13 appearances in all competitions. Trailing 2-0 at half-time, the Seagulls hit back with three unanswered goals in the second period - including Neville’s spectacular effort.

It was a stunning strike that capped an impressive comeback from Brighton, who had been well below par in the first half. Neville’s goal was the pick of the bunch, but it was her all-round performance that caught the eye as she put in a shift at right-back and then in midfield.

This is not the first time Neville has shown her quality with a long-range strike, as she also netted from distance against Manchester United in the FA Women’s Cup last season. That goal was voted Leicester’s Goal of the Season.
