Beth Mead speaks about her SPOTY win.

Beth Mead has had an incredible year, and her win for SPOTY 2020 is just recognition of what she has achieved.

Beth said: “I’m really proud to have been named Women’s Sports Personality of the Year. It’s a huge honour and I’m so thankful that I’ve been recognised in this way. I hope it shows young girls that they can achieve anything if they put their minds to it, and that women’s sports are more than capable of competing with men’s sports when given the opportunity and recognition.”

Beth, who has been a driving force in the success of both club and country over the past few years, was humbled by this recognition. Speaking after her win Beth said “I am absolutely delighted to be awarded such an honour. To follow in the footsteps of some of the most impressive athletes from across all sports is incredibly special. It’s been a dream of mine since I was young and it is an amazing feeling to be SPOTY 2022."

The award comes after Beth scored nine goals in her first six England games, helping the Lionesses to reach the semi-finals at Euro 2021. Beth also played a key role in Arsenal’s Women’s Super League-winning season.

“I want to thank my family, friends and all my teammates who have helped me get here. I wouldn’t be in this position without them and am grateful for the incredible support I have received throughout my career,” Beth added.

Beth Mead is a deserved winner of SPOTY 2022 and she will no doubt continue to be a key part of England’s success in the years ahead. Congratulations Beth! You have made us all proud!
