Celine Boutier makes progress at Women's British Open.

The 28-year-old Celine Boutier is currently ranked No. 35 in the world and is looking to make her first appearance at a major championship.
Boutier had a strong showing at the Women’s British Open, carding a 1-under 71 in the opening round. She followed that up with rounds of even-par 72 and 73 to finish the tournament at 1-under par.
While she didn’t end up winning the event, she did finish tied for 12th place, which is her best career finish at a major championship.
Boutier, who started the day two shots behind Ayaka Furue, made a charge with a 6-under 66. The 28-year-old from France had four birdies and an eagle on the par-5 15th. Furue’s birdie on the par-5 18th hole gave her a one-stroke victory over Celine Boutier and Inbee Park. Park, a seven-time major champion, also had a 66. She birdied four of her last six holes.
Ayaka Furue finished at 18-under 270. Boutier was 17 under, and Park was 16 under. Furue is the fifth Japanese player to win on the LPGA Tour this season. She is the first since Hinako Shibuno won the Women’s British Open in August.
“I’m just so happy,” Furue said through a translator. “This is my first LPGA Tour win, so I’m really happy and proud of myself.” That’s a first for Boutier in a major championship, and it has her in good position to make the weekend cut.
If Celine can keep her composure and maintain her level of play, she could find herself in contention come Sunday afternoon. It would be a fitting end to what’s been a breakout season for the 28-year-old Frenchwoman.
This was a big step in the right direction for Celine Boutier and she will look to build on this performance as she heads into the rest of the season.
