Claressa Shileds slams the rules about the women wearing headgear while having a fight.

The teenage sensation, who is the first American female to win a boxing gold medal, says the rule is “sexist” and puts women at a disadvantage.
“I don’t think it’s fair that we have to wear headgear,” she said. “It’s sexist. Men don’t have to wear headgear, so why do we? t actually works against women because it messes up our hair and our mascara.”
Shields added that she had spoken to International Boxing Association (AIBA) president Dr Ching-Kuo Wu about the issue. “He said he would look into it,” she said. “I really hope they change the rule.”
The AIBA has not responded to Claressa’s comments as of yet. However, it is worth noting that the organisation made headgear optional for men’s boxing at the 2012 London Olympics.

Claressa Shields has argued that the headgear should be optional for female boxers, and she has even petitioned to have the rule changed.
While the rule requiring female boxers to wear headgear is still in place, Claressa Shields continues to fight and dominate her opponents.
