DmitryTursunov, who has also coached Maria Sharapova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, began working with 20-year-old Emma Raducanu in March 2019. However, the partnership ended abruptly last month, with Tursunov taking to social media to announce that he would no longer be coaching the British player.

And in an interview with Tennis Majors, the Russian coach has now revealed the reasons behind his decision to end the relationship. “I was working with her for almost two years and a half and I think we had some success,” Tursunov said of Emma Raducanu.

“But there were some red flags that just couldn’t be ignored and at a certain point, I had to make a decision. I don’t think it would be fair to her or to me to continue working together.”

Raducanu is currently ranked 382nd in the world, but was as high as No. 207 in March 2020. However, the Russian coach decided to end their partnership after just one month.

Tursunov told WTA Insider that there were “red flags” he noticed about Raducanu’s game and habits that made him question whether she was committed to making a real run at a Grand Slam title.

“I think for her, it’s more about the results and the pictures and everything that goes with it rather than actually playing tennis and enjoying the process,” Tursunov said. “I think she has all the potential in the world, but there are just so many red flags that come up constantly with her that it’s impossible to ignore.”

Tursunov added that he didn’t want to be a part of Raducanu’s “circus” and that he wished her the best in her future endeavours.

She has yet to comment on Tursunov’s claims.
