Emma Gilmour spoke about the future of women in motorsport.

There are just two rounds remaining in the inaugural season, with Emma Gilmour and her team mates in the Hispano Suiza XE car looking to build on their strong start to the campaign.
Gilmour, who is one of the leading figures in women’s motorsport, spoke about the future of the sport and the role of women in it. “I think Extreme E is definitely leading the way in terms of inclusivity and diversity,” she said.
“The fact that we have a 50/50 gender split in the drivers’ line-up is great, and I think it’s something that other championships should aspire to. I think the sport has come a long way in recent years in terms of female participation, but there is still a long way to go.”
“There are more and more young girls taking up karting and coming through the ranks, and I think we will see more women competing at the top level in the years to come.”
Gilmour and her Extreme E team mates are in Chile this weekend for the Copper X-Prix, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday.
Emma Gilmour, who is the only woman in the drivers line-up for Extreme E this year, spoke about the future of women in motorsport.
“It’s so important to have female role models in motorsport,” she said. “When I was growing up, there weren’t many women involved in the sport and it was very much a male-dominated environment.”
“It’s great to see more and more women getting involved in Extreme E and I hope that we can inspire the next generation of female racers.”
Extreme E is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in motorsport, and has introduced a number of initiatives to support this goal, including the Equalizer Challenge. Gilmour is hopeful that the Equalizer Challenge will help to increase the number of women competing in Extreme E in the future.
“The Equalizer Challenge is a great way to level the playing field and give more women the opportunity to compete in Extreme E,” she said. “I’m really looking forward to seeing how it develops over the course of the season.”
