Emma Raducanu wasn't able to defend her US Open title. What was the reason?

Emma Raducanu was seeded second at the US Open but lost in the first round to unseeded Slovenian player Kaja Juvan. Emma Raducanu is now ranked number seventy-second in the world, a significant drop from her previous ranking of ninth.
Emma Raducanu’s early exit from the US Open came as a surprise to many, as she was one of the favourites to win the tournament. Emma Raducanu had a strong run at the US Open last year, defeating Serena Williams in the quarter-finals and Simona Halep in the final to claim her first Grand Slam title.
Emma Raducanu’s US Open defence came to an end in ignominious fashion as the Romanian lost in straight sets to world number 102 Margarita Gasparyan. The 21-year-old, who was playing in only her second ever Grand Slam tournament, needed just under two hours to see off the unseeded Raducanu 6-4, 6-0.
It was a bitterly disappointing end to the tournament for Raducanu, who had entered the US Open as the defending champion after winning her maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year. Emma Raducanu’s disappointing performance at this year’s US Open will no doubt be a setback for her, but she will be hoping to get back to winning ways soon. Emma Raducanu is next scheduled to compete at the WTA Elite Trophy in China.
Emma Raducanu wasn’t able to defend her US Open title. What was the reason? Emma lost in the second round to unseeded Anna Blinkova in three sets. She earned only 360 points for her performance at this year’s tournament. As a result, Emma will drop from No. 64 to 72 in the Top 100 when the new rankings were released on Monday.
Emma Raducanu will be hoping to turn her form around soon, but it remains to be seen whether she can reclaim her position at the top of the rankings.
