The undefeated Shields is the current WBC and IBF middleweight champion, and will be putting her titles on the line when she faces Marshall in a highly-anticipated grudge match.

Marshall, who is the former world champion at junior middleweight, is coming off a dominant performance in her last bout against Hannah Rankin. And she’s confident that she has what it takes to dethrone Shields.

“I just feel like I’m the better fighter,” Marshall said in an exclusive interview with The Ring. “I feel like I have the tools to beat her. I know what it takes to win world championships and I believe that I can do it again.”

The two women have a history, as they were both amateur standouts who competed against each other on the international stage. In 2012, Shields defeated Marshall in the semifinals of the Olympic Games.

“I’m just happy that the fight is finally happening,” Marshall told Sky Sports. “It feels like it’s been a long time coming. I’ve stayed ready and I just can’t wait to get in there now and take care of business. Claressa is a great champion, she’s undefeated and has held all the belts.

“She’s somebody that I really look up to, she’s done great things for the sport, but on October 15, I’m going to be taking those belts off her.”

Shields is undefeated in 10 professional fights, with two of those coming against British opponents in Nicola Adams and Hannah Rankin. Marshall, meanwhile, has won all eight of her professional bouts, with her last two victories coming against Melanie Zwecker and Sydney LeBlanc-Baker.

“Claressa is a great champion, she’s undefeated and has held all the belts," said Marshall. “She’s somebody that I really look up to, she’s done great things for the sport, but on October 15, I’m going to be taking those belts off her.”
