Following in the footsteps of Shileds and Marshall- Mikaela Mayer had a meeting with Alycia Baumgardner before their fight.

Before their boxing match, Mayer met with Baumgardner to get a feel for her as an opponent. While she was there, she couldn’t help but notice the similarities between Baumgardner and two other well-known boxers: Claressa Shields and Katie Taylor.

“When I met Alycia, I thought she had the potential to be the next Claressa Shields or Katie Taylor,” Mayer said.

Mayer is not the only one who sees the potential in Baumgardner. The 32-year-old has already fought some of the best in the world, including Marlen Esparza, and she is currently ranked No. 4 in the world by the WBA.

Mayer will have her hands full when she steps into the ring with Baumgardner, but she is confident that she will come out on top. “I think it’s going to be a great fight,” Mayer said. “I have a lot of respect for Alycia, but I believe in myself and I know what I’m capable of. I’m going to go out there and get the win.”

The event is set to take place in The O2 Arena in London.Although their fight has been postponed, that hasn’t stopped Alycia Baumgardner from getting in the ring and sparring with Mikaela Mayer.

“She’s very one-dimensional, she comes forward, doesn’t have a lot of head movement,” said Mayer. “I think that I can definitely use my movement and my jab to kind of control the fight and pick her apart.”

Mayer has been training with Robert Garcia in Riverside, California, for this fight. The two met up before their originally scheduled bout to get a feel for each other. Alycia is undefeated as a professional boxer with a record of 5-0. Mikaela Mayer is also undefeated with a record of 7-0.

This will be a historic fight as it will be the first time two female boxers headline a boxing event in the United Kingdom. The winner of this fight will be one step closer to becoming the undisputed women’s lightweight champion of the world.
