Harriet Dart can be a very harsh opponent to Emma Raducanu.
It was a tough match, with both players trading big blows from the baseline. But it was Dart who held her nerve in the end, winning the final three games to seal the victory.
It was a similar story against Raducanu, with both players battling hard for supremacy. Again, it was Dart who came out on top, winning Kasatkina 7-5, 6-2.
Having come through qualifying, Harriet Dart is no stranger to US Open success. The 22-year-old British player made it all the way to the third round in 2018, before narrowly losing out to eventual champion Naomi Osaka.
This year, Dart is looking to go one better and she has already shown her potential with a string of impressive results. She started the year by reaching the quarter-finals of the Shenzhen Open, before going on to make the semi-finals of both the Newport Beach Challenger and the Lexington Challenger.
And her fine form has continued into the US Open, where she has been drawn against Emma Raducanu in the first round.
Raducanu is the reigning US Open champion, but she has not been in the best of form lately and Dart will be looking to take advantage. The British player has already beaten Raducanu once before, back in 2016, and she will be confident of doing so again.
Both are tough opponents, but Dart will believe that she can beat either of them and progress to the third round. From there, anything is possible and Dart will be hoping to make a deep run into this year’s US Open.
Dart will have to be at her best if she wants to beat Alexandrova, who is a tough opponent. However, Dart has proved that she can compete with the best in the world and she will be confident of causing an upset.
