The US Open champion stunned the tennis world when she defeated Serena Williams in straight sets in the fourth round en route to her maiden Grand Slam title.

Świątek spoke about the US Open final and what it was like to face Serena Williams on the biggest stage in tennis. “It was an amazing feeling,” Świątek said. “I think I played really well. I was just trying to focus on my game and not think about the fact that I was playing Serena Williams in the US Open final."

Of course, it is always an honor to play against her. She is a great champion and an inspiration to many players, including myself. I was just trying to enjoy the moment and focus on my game.”

Świątek also spoke about the impact that Serena Williams has had on her career. “I have always looked up to Serena Williams,” Świątek said. “She is an amazing player and has achieved so much in her career. She is a true champion."

“I think she has inspired many players, including myself. I try to watch her matches and learn from her game. I am really happy that I was able to beat her in the US Open final. She was a big role model for me, always,” Swiatek said of Williams in an interview with CNN. “Even before I started playing tennis, I was following her.”

Williams — who has 23 Grand Slam titles, the most of any active player — has long been an inspiration for Swiatek. “When I started playing, I was trying to copy her game style a little bit because I really liked the way she was playing,” Swiatek said.

The young Pole has certainly managed to make a name for herself in the tennis world — and she says she has Williams to thank for that.

“Serena really inspired me to start playing tennis and to really go for my dreams,” Swiatek said. “She showed me that everything is possible.”
