Karen Carney and Eni Aluko make the history in Qatar.

Karen Carney and Eni Aluko have been employed by Qatar-based beIN SPORTS to present coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Qatar. Karen Carney is a former England international and Arsenal Ladies winger, Eni Aluko a former Chelsea Ladies striker and Seema Jaswal is an English sports journalist.
This marks the first time that a national team World Cup has featured an all-female on-screen panel. Karen Carney and Eni Aluko, who were part of the England Women’s National Team that won the SheBelieves Cup in 2019, have both expressed their excitement at this opportunity to bring a new perspective to sports media coverage.
Karen Carney said, “I am so proud to be part of a ground-breaking moment in FIFA World Cup history and excited about the potential it has for inspiring more women into sports broadcasting.” Eni Aluko added: “This is an exciting opportunity to share my knowledge and experience with a worldwide audience, many of which may never have seen a female commentator before.”
This is an important step in changing the landscape of sports media and will undoubtedly inspire many more women to pursue a career or interest in sports broadcasting, particularly in Qatar.
Karen Carney and Eni Aluko are paving the way for more gender diversity in Qatar, as they take on their roles with beIN SPORTS. It is a huge step forward for women in sport, and Karen Carney and Eni Aluko should be applauded for helping to make history in Qatar.
