Karen Carney speaks about the level of Women's Super League attendance.

Karen Carney, who has played in three World Cups and two Olympic Games, is now a pundit for BT Sport.

“The WSL is the best league in the world,” said Karen. “The standard of football is extremely high and it’s getting better and better every year. The attendance figures are growing, which is fantastic, and I think the media coverage has improved massively."

“It’s a shame that we can’t have crowds in at the moment but hopefully that will change soon. I think the WSL is in a really good place.”

BT Sport is the only place to watch every game from the Women’s Super League live. Coverage of the opening weekend begins on Saturday with Karen joining Corinthians for their game against newly-promoted side Audax at 12.15pm. Karen will also be on commentary duty for Chelsea versus Manchester United at 4.30pm.

On Sunday, Karen will be pitchside as Arsenal take on West Ham United at 2pm. Karen believes the league title is wide open this season and is expecting a close battle at the top of the table.

“It’s so difficult to predict who is going to win the league,” she said. “Chelsea are the reigning champions but they have lost a lot of big players like Karen Bardsley, Katie Chapman, Eniola Aluko and Fran Kirby.

“Manchester City have recruited well and they will be there or thereabouts. Arsenal always seem to find a way to be up there challenging and I think Liverpool are dark horses this season. They had a great campaign last year and they have kept hold of most of their key players."

“It’s going to be a really open and exciting season. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. I think this season you’re going to see better quality, more depth in squads, more players wanting to come and play in the WSL," Carney told Sky Sports News.

“You’ve got some world-class players that have come into the league, you’ve got some very good young English players coming through.”

“I think the standard is only going to get better, which can only be a good thing for the game.”
