The 32-year-old was punched and kicked unconscious by a gang of youths in the French capital, with her injuries so severe that she was placed in an induced coma.

Hamraoui - who has made 16 appearances for PSG this season - told RMC Sport about the vile abuse she received online following the attack.“I had a lot of messages, a lot of threats,” she said. “There were people who said they hoped I would die, that it would have been better if I had died. People told me that I deserved it because I am a lesbian.”

PSG condemned the attack on Hamraoui and released a statement calling for an end to all forms of discrimination. “Paris Saint-Germain condemns the attack suffered by Kheira Hamraoui,” the club said. “The club reaffirms its commitment to the fight against all forms of discrimination and violence, and stands alongside Kheira in this difficult time.”

Hamraoui has been PSG’s first-choice right-back for the past two seasons and has also represented France at Under-19 level. On Wednesday, Hamraoui met with PSG’s lawyers to discuss the incident and the death threats she has received since.

“I am really scared, I don’t know what to do,” Hamraoui told French website L’Equipe.

Hamraoui, who is of Algerian descent, was singled out for abuse by some fans after PSG’s loss on social media, with some even calling for her to be killed.

PSG released a statement condemning the abuse Hamraoui has received, and an investigation is underway. “Paris Saint-Germain condemns the vile threats and racist insults Kheira Hamraoui has been subjected to on social media,” the statement said.

“The club is committed to fighting all forms of racism and discrimination, and will take appropriate action against those responsible for these disgusting messages.”

Hamraoui has since spoken out about the abuse she received, saying that she will not be silenced.
