Lauren Betts might be a fresman of the year.

Lauren Betts, the No. 1 recruit in the 2020 class, verbally committed to Stanford over Connecticut on Monday night.
The 6-foot-4 wing from Los Alamitos, California, is a huge get for Tara VanDerveer and the Cardinal. Betts is a versatile player who can score inside and out, and she has the length and athleticism to be a very good defender at the next level.
Betts is ranked No. 2 in the espnW HoopGurlz Top 100 for the 2020 class. She joins a Stanford recruiting class that also includes No. 12 Haley Jones, a versatile 6-foot-1 wing from Santa Cruz, California, and No. 22 Fran Belibi, a 6-foot-1 wing from Centennial, Colorado.
A 6’4″ post player from Australia, Betts was a member of her country’s U19 World Cup team that won bronze in 2018. She was also the leading scorer and rebounder for the Australian Institute of Sport’s U23 team.
Lauren Betts is an elite level athlete with a high motor. She runs the floor well and is an explosive leaper. Her length and athleticism allow her to be a disruptive presence on the defensive end of the floor. She is also a very good rebounder, especially on the offensive end of the floor where she has a nose for the ball.
Offensively, Betts is still developing as a player. She has good footwork and is a decent shooter from mid-range. She is also starting to develop a back-to-the-basket game.Betty’s biggest strength is her ability to put the ball in the basket. She is an excellent scorer around the rim and has a nice touch on her jumper. She is also a very good free throw shooter.
Betts is a very good prospect who has a chance to be a really special player. She has all the physical tools to be an elite level player. If she can continue to develop her skills, she has a chance to be one of the best players in the country. Lauren Betts is going to be a fun player to watch this season.
