Lorena Wiebes speaks about her win in Tour de France Femmes.

The 20-year-old Wiebes, who rides for the Dutch team Parkhotel Valkenburg, made her Tour de France debut last year. She is currently the number one ranked rider in the world.

Tour de France Femmes 2022 was Wiebes’ second stage win of the Tour and her fourth victory of the season. The 21-year-old also won stages one and four, as well as the overall title at last month’s Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen.

With her win on Sunday, Wiebes became the first rider since Kirsten Wild in 2015 to win two stages at the Tour de France Femmes. The last Dutch rider to win a stage at the Tour was Leontien Zijlaard-Van Moorsel, who claimed the individual time trial on stage eight in 2003.

Wiebes now leads the UCI Women’s WorldTour standings with 1,140 points. She is also the top rider in the UCI Women’s World Ranking, with 2,144 points.

Tour de France Femmes director Christian Prudhomme was full of praise for Wiebes after her win on Sunday. “Lorena Wiebes is a great champion,” he said. “She’s shown that again today. She was the best rider in this Tour de France Femmes.”

Wiebes continued her strong Tour de France performance on Stage 2, winning the sprint finish and taking the overall lead. She now sits in first place overall, with Anna van der Breggen in second and Amanda Spratt in third.

Tour de France director Christian Prudhomme had high praise for Wiebes, saying, “Lorena Wiebes is only 20 years old but she’s already proved herself to be a great champion.” Wiebes will look to continue her strong Tour de France performance on Stage 3.

With confusion spreading about the baby, who spent the majority of her time on the podium crying, Wiebes confirmed at a press conference that it was not hers. “It’s a friend’s baby,” she said. “I was just holding her for a moment.”
