Minjee Lee beats Jin Young in LPGA Power Rankings.

Minjee Lee started the year strong with a win at the ISPS Handa Women’sAustralian Open, but she struggled through much of the spring. She’s back on track now, though, with a win at the Marathon Classic in early July.
Lee is followed closely by Sung Hyun Park, who has been the most consistent player on the LPGA Tour this season. Park has six top-10 finishes in her last eight starts, including a win at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
Entering the final round in South Korea with a share of the lead, Lee kept her cool to beat Sweden’s Anna Nordqvist by two strokes. The victory marked the 22-year-old Australian’s second major title and first LPGA Tour win of 2019. She also jumped from No. 10 to No. 6 in the world rankings.
Minjee Lee showed her mettle on the back nine of Champions Golf Club to win the 2020 LPGA Official Money List with a final total of $2,252,873.
The 23-year-old from Perth closed with a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at 17-under 271, one shot clear of second-ranked Jin Young Ko of South Korea.
Lee began the day two shots behind Ko but took the lead with a birdie on the par-5 12th. Both players birdied the par-3 16th, but Lee sealed the victory with a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-4 18th.
Lee, 22, became the fifth player to win in her first start as a Rolex Anneika Major champion, joining Brittany Lang (2016 U.S. Women’s Open), Inbee Park (2008 U.S. Women’s Open), Stacy Lewis (2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship) and Ariya Jutanugarn (2016 Kraft Nabisco Championship).
“It feels amazing,” said Lee of her win. “I played well all week and I’m so happy to get the victory. This is my first time playing in Korea so it means a lot to me to win here.”
Lee started the final round four shots off the lead but quickly moved up the leaderboard with birdies on three of her first five holes. She took the outright lead with a birdie on the par-5 12th hole and never looked back, closing with six straight pars to finish at 16-under-par 272.
“I was just trying to stay patient out there and not get ahead of myself,” said Lee of her final round strategy. “I made a few early birdies which really helped me settle in and I was able to take the lead on the back nine.”
Minjee Lee has now won four times on the LPGA Tour, including two majors (2015 ANA Inspiration, 2019 Evian Championship)
With the victory, Lee becomes just the second player from Australia to win multiple majors, joining Karrie Webb. She also joins an elite group of players who have won two majors before the age of 23, joining Lydia Ko, Inbee Park and Ariya Jutanugarn.
“It’s amazing, I can’t believe it,” said Lee of her place in history. “I grew up watching Karrie Webb and to be mentioned in the same sentence as her is just unbelievable. To join Lydia, Inbee and Ariya as multiple major winners before the age of 23 is just incredible.”
