Spain’s player Misa Rodriguez was visibly distraught at the full-time whistle and had to be consoled by her teammates. However, her emotions got the better of her and she ended up lashing out at a member of England’s coaching staff. The Spanish FA has since confirmed that Rodriguez has been disqualified from the tournament and will not be able to play in the final. Misa Rodriguez was visibly frustrated after England’s Euro 2022 qualifying match against Spain ended in a 1-1 draw. The footage emerged of the Spanish goalkeeper kicking out at a water bucket on the side of the pitch after England’s equaliser in normal time. Rodriguez was shown a yellow card for dissent in the 67th minute after complaining to the referee, and was then given her marching orders just four minutes later following another outburst. It is the second time in Euro 2022 qualifying that Spain have had a player sent off, with midfielder Alexia Putellas also seeing red against Portugal last month. Speaking after the game, Rodriguez admitted that she let her emotions get the better of her. “I made a mistake, I lost my head,” she said. The fans added on Twitter: “That’s wild. She nearly killed herself.” And a third person typed: “What an idiot. She Euro 2022 will be remembered for this not her footballing ability.”
