Naming the top JWS’ NWSL BEST XI players in 2022.

As the NWSL looks ahead to next year, who are some of the players that could find themselves on the Best XI list?
- Alanna Kennedy (Portland Thorns FC)
Portland’s Australian center back was a revelation this season, starting all 22 games for the club and anchoring a backline that gave up just 19 goals. Her NWSLBest XI appearance would be well deserved.
- Abby Dahlkemper (NC Courage)
The U.S. international had another strong season for the Courage, starting all 22 games and helping her team to a league-best 16 clean sheets. Dahlkemper is one of the best defenders in the NWSL and should be a lock for the Best XI.
- CaseyShort (Chicago Red Stars)
The U.S. international was a key member of the Red Stars’ backline that only allowed 23 goals this season, the second-fewest in the NWSL. Short is an excellent defender with a great understanding of the game, and she should be in contention for a Best XI spot.
- Samantha Mewis (NC Courage)
Mewis had a fantastic season for the Courage, scoring eight goals and adding four assists in 21 games. The U.S. international is one of the best midfielders in the NWSL and should be a shoe-in for the Best XI.
- Debinha (NC Courage)
The Brazilian playmaker was a key member of the Courage’s offense this season, scoring eight goals and adding four assists in 21 games. Debinha is a creative player with an excellent eye for goal, and she should be in contention for a Best XI spot.
- Christen Press (Utah Royals FC)
The U.S. international had a strong season for the Royals, scoring 11 goals and adding three assists in 21 games. Press is an excellent finisher with great movement off the ball, and she should be in contention for a Best XI spot.
