Naomi Osaka's comments on Daria Saville's injury.

“It’s tough to see anyone go down like that,” Osaka said. “I just wanted to make sure she was all right.”
Saville was visibly in pain and crying on the court, and Osaka immediately went over to check on her. “I just wanted to make sure she was okay,” Osaka said after the match. “It’s never fun to see someone go down like that.”
Osaka also had some kind words for Saville, praising her for fighting until the end. “She’s a really strong player, so I know she’ll be back,” Osaka said. “I just hope she recovers quickly.”
This is not the first time that Osaka has shown her compassionate side on the court. Last year, she consoled a crying Kim Clijsters after defeating her in the U.S. Open finals.
“Naomi Osaka is a class act on and off the court,” one fan tweeted. “The way she handled Daria Saville’s retirement says so much about her character.” Another person wrote: “What a champion Naomi Osaka is. Her reaction to Daria Saville’s injury was so sportsmanlike and compassionate.”
The two have never played each other before, but they share a coach in Jermaine Jenkins. “She’s a really sweet girl,” Osaka said of Saville. “She works really hard.”
Osaka went on to win the match in straight sets, but her thoughts were with her opponent. “I hope she recovery quickly and gets back on the court soon,” she said. “She’s a great player.”
Osaka’s comments are sure to be a source of comfort for Saville as she recovers from her injury. It’s clear that Naomi Osaka is not only an incredible tennis player, but also a wonderful human being.
