National Report Findings- Canadian women want a safer sport system.
The Rally Report calls on the federal, provincial and territorial governments to commit to gender-equitable sport by 2022. Women’s participation in physical activity is essential as it contributes to healthier outcomes, improved self-confidence and opportunities for leadership development, especially among girls and young women.
The report also calls for increased access to physical activity and sport experiences for all Canadians, regardless of gender identity, race or socio-economic status. The Rally Report highlights that girls and women need more support in leadership roles in the Canadian sport system as well as a safe and respectful environment.
Women should have meaningful opportunities to lead and shape decision-making at all levels of sport, including coaches, officials and administrators. The report sets out goals to create a better sport system for Canadian women and girls by 2022. These include:
-
Increasing physical activity opportunities for all Canadians regardless of gender identity, race or socio-economic status.
-
Fostering increased Women’s leadership in the sport system.
-
Ensuring Women and girls have safe, respectful and equitable access to sport experiences.
-
Developing effective strategies for increasing Women’s participation in all aspects of sport.
-
Addressing gender disparities across all levels of Canadian sport and physical activity.
These findings reinforce the importance of sport in the lives of Canadian girls and women, and demonstrate a need to prioritize Women’s sport equality. With renewed federal investment, the Rally Report calls on Canada to build a more equitable and safe sport system for Women by 2022. This is an opportunity to ensure that Women and girls are represented at all levels of sport across Canada.
