Ons, who was seeded at No.21 for the tournament, put up a gallant fight against her opponent but eventually succumbed to a 7-5 6-4 defeat in the third round of the Grand Slam event. Ons had previously reached the fourth round of the Australian Open back in 2019 and will be looking to go one step further next year.

Ons has been in fine form throughout 2020 and 2021, having made two Grand Slam quarterfinals as well as reaching the final of the Australian Open warm-up tournament, the Adelaide International. Ons Jabeur, the 26-year-old from Tunisia, had been in impressive form throughout the Australian Open but was no match for Marketa Vondrousova’s powerful serve and aggressive attacking shots.

Ons Jabeur was attempting to become only the seventh player in history to win a Grand Slam singles title from outside Europe or North America, but she was unable to find her form in the final. Ons Jabeur, who is now ranked seventh in the world, has been a shining light for women’s tennis in Tunisia and Africa, becoming the first female player from an Arab country to achieve success on the WTA tour.

Ons Jabeur has been a role model to many young players in her home country and continues to inspire them with her remarkable achievements. Despite the disappointment of the Australian Open, Ons Jabeur is determined to continue working hard and believes that she can still make history in the sport. Ons will now turn her focus to Wimbledon where she will look to make it past the fourth round for the first time in her career.
