Queen Elizabeth II was paid an emotional tribute by Arsenal star and England captain Leah Williamson.

Leah Williamson has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her death. The Arsenal star and England captain took to social media to share a photo of herself with the Queen, writing: “Rest in peaceYour Majesty. Thank you for your incredible service to our country.”

Williamson is one of a number of Arsenal stars to have met the Queen, with Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also sharing photos of themselves with her.

The Queen was a big fan of Arsenal, attending their games on several occasions. She even presented the club with a replica of the FA Cup in 2014 after they won it for the second time in three years.

Posting on Twitter, Leah wrote: “The Queen was an incredible woman who devoted her life to public service. “She was an inspiration to us all and will be deeply missed.”

Queen Elizabeth II was the head of the Commonwealth and patron of more than 600 charities and organisations.

Leah’s message was re-tweeted by Arsenal’s official account, with the club adding their own tribute to the Queen. They wrote: “Everyone at Arsenal is saddened to learn of the death of HRH The Queen. Our thoughts are with her family and all those who have served her during her remarkable life.”

The Queen’s death was announced on Friday morning, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson paying tribute to her “extraordinary” life. He said: “It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Her Majesty The Queen at Windsor Castle this morning."

The Queen died peacefully at 9.30am. Her Majesty was 96 years old.”

Following the announcement, Buckingham Palace released a statement which read: “It is with deep sadness that Her Majesty The Queen has passed away at Windsor Castle. “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning her loss.”
