Both Khabib and Ronda are UFC superstars, with Khabib being the current Lightweight Champion, and Ronda being the first ever UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion. So it’s no surprise that when Khabib was asked about his thoughts on ring girls during a recent interview, he had some strong words to say.

“For me, it’s very important that a woman who comes to the octagon is dressed like a woman,” Khabib said. “She should not be half-naked.”

“I think this is wrong and it brings the sport down,” he continued. “It’s very important that we respect women.”

Ronda Rousey, who is now retired from UFC, was asked about Khabib’s comments during a recent appearance on The View. “I actually agree with him,” Ronda said. “I think that UFC could do better by their female employees.”

Now, Khabib has doubled down on his comments in a recent interview with Russian publication Izvestia, claiming that ring girls are “unnecessary” and calling for them to be removed from UFC events.

These comments have not gone down well with everyone, including fellow MMA fighter and UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey. Rousey took to her personal website to air her thoughts on Khabib’s comments, writing:

“I think it’s safe to say that Khabib is wrong about ring girls being unnecessary. As a matter of fact, I think they are completely essential to the sport and the experience of attending a live event.”

Rousey went on to say that ring girls are “more than just eye candy” and play an important role in keeping fans engaged during lulls in the action. “They help break up the monotony between rounds and add an element of sex appeal and fun that is integral to the sport of MMA,” she wrote.

Rousey also took issue with Khabib’s claim that ring girls are “useless,” writing that they work hard to hone their craft and are deserving of respect.“To say that ring girls are useless is not only disrespectful to hardworking women everywhere, but it’s just plain wrong,” she wrote.
