Sarah-Jane, 32, is ranked number 10 in the world and is currently the highest ranking English female player. Sarah-Jane made her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow in 2014, where she reached the quarter-finals of the singles event and won a bronze medal in the doubles event.

She is passionate about promoting gender equality in sport and is an ambassador for Women’s Sport Trust. Sarah-Jane believes that if more girls and women are encouraged to get involved in sport, it will help to break down the barriers that still exist. Sarah-Jane is also a member of the Equality in Sport Commission, which was set up by the British government to tackle discrimination in sport.

The tennis player is an inspiration to many young girls and women and is proof that if you work hard and believe in yourself, anything is possible. Sarah-Jane’s Commonwealth Games campaign got off to a great start with a win over India’s Joshna Chinappa in the singles event. Sarah-Jane then went on to reach the quarter-finals, where she lost to New Zealand’s Joelle King.

“I went to my first women’s football game last year,” Sarah-Jane told The Guardian. “I watched Arsenal play Tottenham. I had no idea what was going on – I just knew that there were two teams trying to get a ball in a net. But it was so exciting."

“The women’s game has grown so much. You can see it in the Commonwealth Games, with more girls playing. And that is so important, because if you get girls playing sport when they are younger, they are more likely to continue doing it throughout their lives."

“It is really important that we keep pushing for gender equality in sport. I am so happy to be part of that movement.” - she says.

Sarah-Jane Perry is a very talented and determined player and we are sure that she will continue to achieve great things in the world of squash.
