The longtime Seatle Storm point guard was celebrated by the team, fans and community in her final game at KeyArena before she retires at the end of the season.

Bird was serenaded with “One Last Time” chants from the crowd and given a standing ovation when she left the game with 2:37 remaining. She finished with eight points and seven assists in the Storm’s 98-82 win over the Dallas Wings.

“It was really special,” Bird said of the send-off. “Obviously I have a lot of love for this city and this organization, so to be able to have that moment in front of our fans, it was really powerful.”

Bird, who is the WNBA’s all-time leader in assists, is in her 17th season and has spent her entire career with the Storm. She helped lead the team to two WNBA championships (2004, 2010) and was named the league MVP in 2002 and 2006.

So it was only fitting that Bird was the center of attention in Seattle’s regular-season finale against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. “This city and this organization has just been everything to me,” Bird said. “I really can’t imagine having it any other way.”

Before the game, the Storm honored Bird with a video tribute featuring messages from former teammates, coaches and opponents. The ceremony also included a moment of silence for Breonna Taylor, a Black woman who was killed by police in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this year.

After the game, Bird spoke to the crowd gathered at Angel of the Winds Arena, thanking them for their support throughout her career. “It’s been an amazing ride,” Bird said. “I really can’t put into words what it’s meant to me to play in front of all of you, and to have this city and this organization in my back pocket for so long.

“I’m just really grateful, and I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart.”
