It was a wild game that had just about everything, including a record-setting performance from Orlando goalkeeper Erin McLeod. But in the end, it was Kornieck’s moment as she scored her fifth goal of the season in the 89th minute to give the Courage a 2-2 draw.

The Courage looked like they were going to cruise to an easy victory after Debinha scored in the first half, but Orlando stormed back with two goals in quick succession to take the lead. Kornieck’s goal rescued a point for the Courage and ensured that they will finish no lower than fourth place in the NWSL standings.

It was a gutsy performance from the Courage, who were without some key players including U.S. internationals Samantha Mewis and Abby Dahlkemper. But Kornieck stepped up in their absence, scoring the goal that will send the Courage to the NWSL playoffs.

Kornieck’s late equalizer helped the Wave clinch a playoff spot in the NWSL Challenge Cup. The team will face the Portland Thorns in the semifinals on Tuesday.

Kornieck has been a key player for the Wave this season. She scored the team’s first goal of the tournament and has been a constant threat on set pieces.

The Wave will be looking to Kornieck to continue her strong play in the semifinals and help the team make a run at the NWSL Challenge Cup title.

Kornieck, who is in her second season with the Courage, has been one of the team’s most consistent players. She has appeared in all 18 games this season, starting 17 of them. Kornieck has scored four goals and added two assists.

The Courage will now face Portland Thorns FC in the semifinals. The game will be played on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
