The new time 100 next rising stars- Trinity Rodman and Sam Kerr.

Kerr, 26, is a striker for the Chicago Red Stars and the Australian national team. She was the first woman to be named Young Australian of the Year in 2018, and was also the first Australian to be named to the TIME100 list in 2019.

Rodman, 20, is a forward for the Washington Spirit and the United States U-20 women’s national team. She is the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman.

“Sam Kerr and Trinity Rodman are two of the most exciting young players in women’s soccer today,” said TIME editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal. “We’re thrilled to include them on our TIME100 Next list.”

At international level, Sam captained Australia at the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup where they won the tournament for the first time in history. She was also named captain of the Matildas for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Sam has been widely regarded as one of the best players in the world, winning numerous individual awards including the Asian Football Confederation Player of the Year (2017), Young Australian of the Year (2018), and Laureus Sportswoman of the Year (2019).

In her write-up on Sam Kerr, Trinity praises for her “amazing skill,” “incredible work ethic,” and “huge heart.”

“Sam is the kind of player who leaves everything on the field, every single time she steps on it,” Wambach writes. “She has an amazing ability to find the back of the net and an incredible work ethic. But what I admire most about Sam is her huge heart. She cares deeply about her teammates and the game of soccer.”

The TIME100 Next list is an extension of the annual TIME100 list, which features the world’s most influential people. The rising stars on the list are chosen based on their “global impact” and “potential to shape the future.”
