Canada’s only two Top 10 teams in Canada West, the UBC Thunderbirds (18-3-3) and Saskatchewan Huskies (17-4-3), moved up to first and second place respectively from their rankings last week.

The Thunderbirds earned the top spot after posting a pair of shutout wins against the NAIT Ooks on the weekend. The Huskies also posted two wins against the Winnipeg Wesmen, and remain tied for first place in Canada West with UBC.

The Thunderbirds have been a force to be reckoned with on the Canada West scene this season, and their first-place ranking is just further testament to that fact. With seven games left in the Canada West regular season, the Thunderbirds look to remain atop Canada’s Women Hockey Top 10.

Canada West leading scorer Maddi Wheeler notched two goals and one assist, along with a pair of shutouts from netminder Amelia Boughn. The UBC Thunderbirds now sit atop Canada West women’s hockey rankings, becoming the first Canada West team ever to reach the No. 1 spot in the Canada Women Hockey Top 10.

The Canada West teams have held the No. 2 spot for three consecutive weeks, and now UBC will aim to hold onto the coveted title of Canada’s best university hockey team. This is a great accomplishment for the Thunderbirds, who are showing true excellence on the ice this season. Canada West Women Hockey fans should be sure to keep an eye on UBC Thunderbirds as they continue to soar in Canada West and Canada Women Hockey rankings.
