The USWNT's main problem- the team needs to get younger.

The USWNT’s needs to get younger in order to compete at the highest levels. In recent years, the USWNT has seen a number of young stars emerge and make an impact on the team.
Players like Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, and Megan Rapinoe have become key members of the team and have helped lead the USWNT to success. However, the USWNT is still reliant on its veterans, many of whom are approaching the end of their careers.
In order to continue being successful, the USWNT needs to develop more young players and get them involved in the team. One way to do this is by increasing the number of U-23 and U-20 players who are given an opportunity to train with the USWNT.
This will help the USWNT continue to be one of the best teams in the world for years to come.
And so USWNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski set out to do just that, looking for players who could not only bring energy and enthusiasm to the team, but also help the USWNT win now and in the future.
One of the first young players Andonovski turned to was Rose Lavelle, then just 22 years old. Lavelle had already made a name for herself with her outstanding play in the NWSL and at the 2019 World Cup, where she scored one of the USWNT’s most important goals in the final against the Netherlands.
Lavelle was one of several young players Andonovski called up for the USWNT’s post-Olympic friendly against Portugal in November 2021. And she didn’t disappoint, scoring a beautiful goal in the USWNT’s 3-0 win.
With Lavelle leading the way, the USWNT appears to be on track to get younger and continue its domination of the women’s soccer world.
