Who are the highest paid female athletes of 2022?
The list includes both male and female athletes, with the 10 highest paid female athletes of 2022 earning more than $125 million in combined salary, winnings and endorsements. The 2022 list of the highest paid female athletes across the world is incomplete without these two powerhouses.
Osaka, who acquired $37.4 million in total income since 2022, has established herself as one of the most decorated and consistent sports stars on and off court with her reliable performances at Grand Slams and a lucrative portfolio of brand endorsements.
Serena Williams takes second place with $36 million in total earnings, her 2022 earnings being a slight drop from the previous year due to her lesser playing activity. However, Serena’s 2022 season saw her win two Grand Slams and further cemented her legacy as one of the greatest ever players.
Rounding off the top five is tennis star Simona Halep, who earned $18 million in 2022. Halep’s 2022 season saw her take home two titles and hold the number one ranking for an extended period of time, making her one of the most dominant players on court throughout 2022.
Rounding out the top five are tennis players Serena Williams ($36 million), Simona Halep ($34 million) and Karolina Pliskova ($20 million). All five athletes earned at least $18 million from endorsements, with Osaka and Morgan leading the pack.
The 2022 list also includes seven other female athletes in the top 10 earning more than $10 million. Basketball players Nneka Ogwumike, Maya Moore and Candace Parker made the list, as did golfer Lexi Thompson, skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and snowboarders Chloe Kim and Jamie Anderson.
The 2022 list of the highest paid female athletes proves that women are making great strides in sport despite the gender wage gap still prevalent in many sports. With more opportunities for female athletes to earn endorsement deals along with competitive salaries, 2022 promises to be a great year for female athletes.
