World champions- England 2-1 USA

The USA put up a brave fight, but England were just too strong. The win sees England reach the World Cup final for the first time since 2009 and they will face either Sweden or the Netherlands.
It was a World Cup final that nobody expected but it was one that, in the end, produced a fitting champion. England are world champions for the first time since 1966 after beating the United States 2-1 in Lyon.
The game started at a frantic pace and it was the USA who took the lead through Sophia Smith’s wonderful strike. England hit back immediately through Lauren Hemp, before Georgia Stanway’s second-half winner sealed the victory.
After a dominant display in the World Cup final last year, England took an early lead against the USA in this one through Nikita Parris’ cool finish. The lead didn’t last long though, as Christen Press levelled things up with a thunderous strike from distance.
Both teams had their chances to win it, but it was England who got the decisive goal through Ellen White, who capitalised on a mistake from USA goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher.
